Why Choose a Professional Auditor from Divine Energy Solutions?

A professional home energy assessment by a Divine Energy Solutions certified auditor will provide a thorough analysis of your home's energy use. In addition to a room-by-room examination of the home, the auditor can use equipment such as blower doors, infrared cameras, gas leak and carbon monoxide detectors, moisture meters, and non-toxic smoke pens to give you a true measure of your energy usage and perhaps more importantly, where your energy and therefore money is being wasted.

What is a BPI GoldStar Contractor?

BPI GoldStar Contractor companies have taken the time and energy to improve their business practices. These companies work with BPI to receive business-to-business mentoring, free training and resources, and partially subsidized training by industry experts to stay up-to-date and knowledgeable.

Companies participating in the BPI GoldStar Contractor program employ at least one BPI Certified Professional. BPI Certified Professionals are residential contractors who have proven their knowledge, skills, and abilities by successfully taking and passing BPI exams to get certified.

BPI GoldStar Contractors know how to improve a home’s energy efficiency while providing important safety testing, such as carbon monoxide and combustion appliance safety checks.

Preparing for a Home Energy Audit

Before the Divine Energy Solutions assessor visits your house, make a list of any existing problems such as condensation and uncomfortable or drafty rooms. Have a summary of your home's yearly energy bills. This information is used to establish what to look for during the audit. The assessor will also talk with you to better understand your needs and concerns.  The assessor will need access to your entire house. In addition, they will examine the outside of the home to determine the size of the house and its features (i.e., wall area, number and size of windows). The assessor then will analyze how you use your home:

  • Is anyone home during working hours?

  • What is the average thermostat setting for summer and winter?

  • How many people live in the home?

  • Is every room in use?

Your answers may help uncover some simple ways to reduce your household's energy consumption.

Energy Audit - Tools of the Trade

Blower Door Test -

Divine Energy Solutions Energy Auditors may use a blower door as a diagnostic tool to determine how much air is entering or escaping from your home. A blower door is a powerful fan that a trained energy professional temporarily mounts into the frame of an exterior doorway in your home. After calibrating the device, the fan pulls air out of the house, lowering the air pressure inside. The higher outside air pressure then flows in through all unsealed gaps, cracks, and openings such as gaps, cracks, or wiring penetrations. If conditions do not allow for lowering the pressure in the home, the fan may also be operated in reverse, with air pressure increased inside the home.

Thermographic Inspection -

Thermography measures surface temperatures by using infrared video and still cameras. These tools see the light that is in the heat spectrum. Images on the video or film record the temperature variations of the building's skin, ranging from white for warm regions to black for cooler areas. The resulting images help the auditor determine whether insulation is needed. They also serve as a quality control tool, to ensure that insulation has been installed correctly.
